UPDATE on the Storm Drains (Catch Basins) on Valley Way. These catch basins are slightly different and more involved than regular storm drains and require additional resources to cleanup. Some of you may already be aware, but for those who are not, each time we clear these of debris, there is at least one, potentially more, individuals who immediately and intentionally fill them with trash after staff leaves the drain clean.

The update is that staff has teamed up with Riverside County Flood Control to install trash capture devices to mitigate this problem going forward. We are currently in the process of scheduling another cleanup soon and working to get the trash capture devices as soon as possible! (Photo for reference only)

ALDI GRAND OPENING

Councilnmember Willy Silva and I had the opportunity to join ALDI USA for their Grand Opening of their newest store in the Vernola Marketplace! They are providing a much needed option for our growing community. We wish them success and look forward to their second store opening in the Shops at Jurupa Valley! #jurupavalley #economicdevelopment #shopping

STATE OF THE COUNTY

I had the opportunity to attend the State of the County 2022. Supervisor Karen Spiegel gave a great update on County District 2, of which Jurupa Valley is a part of. We also heard updates from the other Supervisors regarding their districts. Riverside County was the fastest growing County in the State over the past decade and the fastest, second only to Maricopa County in Arizona, growing County in the Country in 2021. Looking forward to continuing the work at the City, County, and Region to continue to invest in Jurupa Valley in collaboration with our partners at each level.

2023 NEW LAWS AT A GLANCE

You can view a list of some new laws taking effect in 2023:

This is only a snippet. As an example, over 40 new housing bills passed this past year. A few worth noting are in the attached image.

I-REN

Had our first I-REN meeting yesterday where we approved Crystal Ruiz of WRCOG serve as Chair, Oscar Ortiz of CVAG serve as Vice Chair, and Art Bishop of SBCOG serve as 2nd Vice Chair. Looking forward to working with our partners to improve energy efficiency throughout our region and ultimately offer programs to our residents, particularly in disadvantaged communities. Our website will launch soon, I'll be sure to keep you updated. #jurupavalley

FLABOB AIPORT SPECIFIC PLAN

For the past year or so I have been working closely with the amazing staff at Flabob Airport and City of Jurupa Valley, including community input, to ensure the long term protection of this historical site in #jvdistrict5. We approved the Flabob Airport Specific Plan that will protect the Airport, not only with its current uses, but potential future uses such as education, rocketry, and other activities! They offer a multitude of programs for our youth and more. I'll be sharing more over the coming months of the various programs they offer and how to participate. #jurupavalley #rubidoux #indianhills #jurupahills

infrastructure

The current Council, as recently shared, has made the largest investment in infrastructure allocating over $20 million of our ARPA funds to our roads!

Council Meeting Highlight: During the most recent meeting, the Jurupa Valley city council approved a construction agreement of over $2 Million to be used for citywide pavement rehabilitation.

The project consists of grinding and overlaying streets, reconstruction of curbs and gutters, sidewalks, driveway approaches, as well as paving with rubberized asphalt pavement and adjusting the manholes and water valves to grade and striping.

The project locations are Limonite from Felspar Street to Pedley Road, Jurupa road from Agate Street to Galena Street, Rubidoux from Highway 60 to 29th Street and Agate Street from Jurupa Road to Mission Boulevard.

This funding is in addition to the approximately $20 Million that city council has already allocated to street improvements through ARPA

Mission Bridge Replacement

The County of Riverside, in cooperation with the Cities of Riverside and Jurupa Valley, proposes to replace the existing Mission Boulevard Bridge over the Santa Ana River. The proposed project will accommodate two 12-foot lanes, two 14-foot lanes, two 8-foot shoulders, and a 4-foot median. A 12- foot multipurpose trail with barrier separation from vehicular traffic will be located along the south side of the bridge in lieu of standard sidewalks on each side.

The new bridge will be approximately 88 feet wide and 1,100 feet long. The replacement bridge profile will be raised slightly to accommodate current standards for the roadway design. At mid-span, the profile will be approximately 4 to 6 feet higher than the existing bridge. Learn more about the project.

Market Bridge Replacement

The County of Riverside, in cooperation with the Cities of Riverside and Jurupa Valley, proposes to replace the existing Market Street Bridge over the Santa Ana River. A new 4-lane bridge will be provided to enhance public safety and traffic circulation in the area. The work will include reconstructing approach roadways, providing necessary channel improvements, and a multi-purpose trail connecting to the existing and proposed regional trails. The new bridge will be approximately 88 feet wide and 1,200 feet long. Learn more about the project.

Visit the link above for a full list of projects. I've asked staff to work on creating a more user friendly map by introducing interactivity through a GIS map instead of a flat file. More to come.

I had the honor of being sworn in for my second term as your #jvdistrict5 Councilnmember by my very good friend U.S. Army Veteran David Barnes! I want to thank all the residents, my friends, my family, and especially my wife and daughters, for being in attendance and for their support. We must and will build upon the successes of the last four years together. I will be reaching out to District 5 residents over the coming months to hear what your priorities are, what your concerns are, and continue to share information via social media, email, newsletters, and in person to continue my pledge of transparency and accessibility. Thank you all for the privilege of serving our community. #jurupavalley
